The PSP’s pointed nose profile makes it a ballistically efficient projectile. Its 2,820 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel grants the PSP a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.336. This means the PSP flies in a flat trajectory, needing only to rise by approximately 2” before it intercepts a target at 200 yards (assuming 1.5” sight height). And if you believe ethical whitetail hunting demands at least 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy on impact, then you’ll be pleased to see this round still punches that hard at approximately 449 yards.
The PSP is nearly completely wrapped in a solid gilding metal jacket. This toughens the bullet considerably, ensuring that it resists fragmenting apart as it tunnels deeply into its target. Because its ductile lead core is revealed at its tip, the PSP also supplies the wide terminal expansion which kills medium game quickly.
