This cartridge’s 175 grain bullet is deadly at subsonic velocities. The Sub-X reliably expands within soft tissue following impact as low velocity as 900 fps – and this round retains that much velocity until around 240 yards. The Sub-X features a deep nose cavity, as well as an aggressively grooved jacket to promote highly reliable terminal expansion. The Sub-X is also equipped with Hornady’s trademark InterLock ring, which prevents component separation that could cause too shallow a wound channel.
This ammo is safe for all lever-action rifles, and you’ll appreciate its softer report even if you haven’t got a suppressor handy. Subsonic ammo is additionally loaded with propellant that noticeably reduces muzzle flash. You’ll still be able to see after firing your first shot!
