Fiocchi’s Missouri-made Hyperformance Defense series cartridge isn’t strictly SS197SR. That’s because its bullet isn’t the V-MAX by Hornady, although the 40 grain, 1,750 fps muzzle velocity polymer-tipped bullet is functionally identical. The bullet’s sharp meplat assures seamless feeding in a semi-auto, promotes a flat and consistent trajectory, and markedly accelerates terminal expansion as it jams into the JHP’s underlying nose cavity.
This round’s bullet does possess a lead core, although its jacket prevents propellant gasses from aerosolizing any lead during ignition. Alongside the round’s lead-free Boxer primer, that’s going to keep your firearm and your lungs cleaner while you’re training indoors. Fiocchi’s virgin brass cases make their ammo just as reliable as it is reloadable.
