More Details About This Hornady 55gr FMJ .223 Ammo
This is Hornady’s Frontier series ammo. It was assembled at Lake City using the factory’s own brass, noncorrosive Boxer primers and propellant. Some folks take a look at those cases and assume they’re reloaded. They are mistaken. This ammo’s brass is new and reloadable, and visibly heat-treated for added reliability in semi-automatic firearms (such as your own 5.56/223 AR).
Hornady made this ammo’s bullets: 55 grain full metal jackets, which are favored for every kind of target shooting (save for really tricky long-distance shots). The FMJ’s lead core and brass jacket can’t attract a magnet (or deliver terminal expansion). Muzzle velocity and G1 BC out of a 24” barrel are 3,240 fps and 0.243, respectively.
